What Is Airtel Service Charge?

Airtel service charge is a 15% service charge deducted from the amount borrowed from Airtel. Meaning you do not receive exactly the amount you borrow from Airtel. The company charges a certain percentage for any xtracredit borrowed.

Below is a table showing how Airtel charges per amount borrowed:

Airtime Loan (NGN)

Value* You Will Be Credited (NGN)

Amount You Pay Back (NGN)

25 20 25
50 42.5 50
100 85 100
200 170 200
500 425 500
1,000 850 1,000
2,000 1,700 2,000

This means that if you borrow ₦1000 for instance, Airtel takes ₦150 naira, which leaves you with ₦850 naira of the airtime you borrowed. Then whenever you recharge your account with any amount, the money you borrow will be immediately deducted from the amount recharged.

If you recharge less than the amount you borrowed, then all the money you recharged will be taken and Airtel will keep taking all the money you recharge till you repay all you borrowed and you can borrow again.

Can I Borrow Airtime From Airtel If I Am Owing Them?

Every subscriber has an Airtel airtime loan limit and you cannot borrow more airtime once you reach your limit. But you can continue borrowing if you have not reached your limit. For instance, if your xtracredit limit is ₦500 you will not be able to borrow more xtracredit once you borrow up to ₦500 but you can always borrow more as far as you have not reached the ₦500 benchmark.
